Update Section 6.1…The Front End
6.1…This will begin with body improvements made to the front of
the vehicle. Above is a list of parts we purchased for this section. You can duplicate
in whole or in part with the same Ford parts, so we included the part numbers and cost associated with each part.
Here I wanted to change the front splitter, I liked the more aggressive look of the Boss 302 Laguna Sega or S model.
This was really affirmed at the Miller Motorsports Park, as I was on the fence beforehand. There
I grew to not only like the look, but appreciate the use and meaning of those parts. If you have never
tried Road Racing, I would strongly suggest it. And Miller Motorsports park is the only place I would recommend
attending for just such an event. We went, and I was very pleased with the professionalism, knowledge and
equipment they have there. I learned more in one day then I had in 30 years of daily driving, it's
simply a must for the competitive driver!
Our Splitter will be painted School Bus Yellow like the car, and have a Carbon Fiber print added with a clear coat
finish applied over everything. This gives us a very unusual finish that will set our car apart from all
others and allow it to provide the down force needed to compete on tract. We are also adding front Fog
lights in the normal 2013-14 Mustang area, but at the same time adding a set of grill lights where the 2010-12 mustangs had
them. Again, this will serve several functions. We will have additional front lighting
for better driving in dark conditions, both close down on the roadway and higher in the middle of the grill. This
will also serve to make our 2013 Boss look much different than any other Boss 302 out there. Boss's
do not come with a Fog Light option…so right away, we will have a Boss with factory Fog Lights…pretty cool.
Then, were the middle grill is, they have fake lamp rings. These were installed on 2010 and earlier
model, but discontinued and only the trim rings remained. Here we will install the factory grill lights
and have everything working like factory, using factory parts for easy replacement and excellent fit. All
wiring will use factory harness's, and plug right into the factory headlamp switch. To
change things up even more, we purchased a new grill shell, and will have it painted the same Yellow /Carbon Fiber as the
splitter, but the outside trim ring will be Black/Carbon Fiber for a nice accent. The center grill emblem
may or may not stay the one that came on the Boss 302, as we have a common chrome pony that came in the Grill Lighting Kit,
so we will look at both and see which one looks better with the newly painted grill and surround. Up front, but not all the way up there, are the two hood vents. These
set in the hood on both right and left side, back toward the windshield. The original ones are simply painted
to match the car color, but I think they would look much better in a contrasting color. For now I am thinking
Yellow/Carbon Fiber, but I am also thinking about the Black/Carbon Fiber…we will find out which one we go with at the
end of this project session. Last but not least, will be the new Yellow/Carbon Fiber painted Mirror.
